Naisargi N. Dave

Naisargi N. Dave is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Toronto, and works extensively on urban India.  Her first book Queer Activism in India: A Story in the Anthropology of Ethics (Duke University Press, 2012) won the Ruth Benedict Prize for Outstanding Single-Authored Monograph.  She has published extensively on the topic of queerness and politics in journals such as Cultural Anthropology, Feminist Studies, and Cultural Dynamics, exploring emergent forms of politics and relationality in the contexts of contemporary India.  Her second book project, The Social Skin: Humans and Animals in India, engages with questions of humanism and animality and is being funded by a SSRHC Standard Research Grant and a fellowship from the Jackman Humanities Institute.
